Web Awesome

A library of framework-agnostic web components from the makers of Font Awesome. Because they are custom elements rather than Vue or React components, they work anywhere, which is what separates them from Vuetify and PrimeVue. It is built on Lit.

I use Web Awesome, formerly Shoelace, to build reusable, standards-based web component interfaces across frameworks. I came to it after running into the limits of component kits like Bootstrap, Vuetify, and Bulma, and it is built on Lit.

Experience highlights

  • Focused on browser-native custom elements and cross-browser compatibility.
  • jws.dev itself is built with Web Awesome, which uses it for cards, page layout, and form controls.
  • Chose it over Bootstrap, Vuetify, and Bulma because custom elements are not tied to a single framework.
